This is Newport u3a
learn, laugh, live
Join an exciting self-help learning organisation
The first age is childhood and school
The second age is responsibilities and work
But the THIRD AGE is CHOICES and FREEDOM
The U3A movement offers life-enhancing opportunities to those no longer in full time employment and are either retired or working towards retirement. Our motto is: Learn, Laugh, Live . We try to do all three in large quantities.
The University of the Third Age was founded in 1982 and is a self-help organisation which now spreads across the globe. Its groups come together to develop new skills and interests, on a primarily social basis.
Newport SE Wales U3A was founded in 1993 and has over 400 members. We are a friendly crowd from all walks of life and we enjoy many activities at around 40 varied study, leisure and interest groups. Most groups meet over the 40 weeks of the year, having breaks at the three main school holidays. Some groups continue throughout the year. For general information relating to each group use the link below to see our Brochure. Alternatively, for more detailed information, visit our Groups page and make your selection. NOTE THAT MEMBERSHIP OF OUR U3A ENTITLES YOU TO ATTEND AS MANY GROUPS AS YOU CAN FIT IN.
To join simply choose which group you would like to attend on your first visit and come to the Dolman Theatre around 15 minutes before its start time. You will be issued with a "taster session" card, entitling you to try any groups during a two week period - these do not have to be consecutive weeks. Following this, we ask you to join as a member.
Let U3A membership add another dimension to your life. No qualifications are needed and none given - we learn for pleasure.
Why Should I Join U3A?
To Learn new skills and pursue interests in a friendly social group.
To Meet new people and make new friends.
To Stay active, both mentally and physically
Most importantly - to have fun!
We welcome prospective members to attend their choice of groups and try them out over a period of two weeks, which do not have to be consecutive. After two weeks we will ask them to join as a full member. Membership fees are currently just £40 for a full year, £30 from September and £20 from January. That works out at just £1 a week for being able to attend a large number of different activities.
Venue
Most of our meetings and classes take place at The Dolman Theatre, Kingsway, Newport, NP20 1HY.
We moved to the Dolman Theatre in 2022 following the closure of Shaftesbury Street Methodist Church. The extra space has given us the opportunity to start more classes. Please see the Groups page for more details.

Café
The move to the Dolman Theatre gave us the opportunity to open our very own café. It has given us a large area to socialise in and is open Wednesday, Thursday and Friday between 9.30 and 2.30. Tea/coffee and biscuits are available for a very reasonable price.

If you have any queries click on the link below and we'll get back to you. Please check before attending a group for the first time as occasionally groups can be cancelled for a variety of reasons.
