“The best moments in reading are when you come across something – a thought, a feeling, a way of looking at things – which you had thought special and particular to you. And now, here it is, set down by someone else, a person you have never met, someone even who is long dead. And it is as if a hand has come out, and taken yours.”

Harvington Hall

Steam Museum
In July 2024 the History group visited the museum of
the Great Western Railway which is housed in a
beautifully restored building in the heart of the former
Swindon raiiway works.
The museum tells the story of the men and women
who built, operated and travelled on the Great Western
Raiiway, often referred to by historians and raiiway fans
as "God's Wonderful Railway".
Isambard Kingdom Brunel's railway network was
regarded as the most advanced in the worid.
