Musical Director: Stephen Berry
The Choir numbers around 85 enthusiastic members, male and female, who enjoy singing a very varied repertoire including the occasional new composition written especially for this choir. The variety is appreciated by singers and audiences alike and we now have a number of "regular" venues which we return to at least once a year - and sometimes more frequently!
Much of our repertoire is sung in four parts (soprano, alto, tenor and bass), something which enhances both the sound and the enjoyment of suitable pieces.
We welcome new members, whether experienced singers or not. There is no voice test and no audition - and it is not necessary that you read music. Thanks to various initiatives of recent years, singing and choirs have again become fashionable and the health and well-being benefits have been proved beyond doubt. This is reflected in the great delight we gain from the pleasure we give to our audiences.
If you have always wanted to sing and you are able to join us for rehearsals on Thursdays, please come along and see whether we are what you are looking for. It is worth making contact in advance, however, as times (and occasionally venue) can be subject to change. We occasionally have to meet elsewhere; notably during July and August in the summer break. Belle Vue Park Bandstand, Newport has been a favourite alternative, but please contact me in advance to confirm.
Our present concert venues include the Dolman Theatre and churches, halls, residential and nursing homes and hospitals, mainly in the Newport and Cwmbran areas, though occasionally further afield. We have performed at the Senedd in Cardiff, at St Woolos Cathedral, Newport, and at the Caerleon Festival. The Choir can also be heard annually at the Newport County AFC Carol Service, which is held at St John's Church, Maindee.
