We enjoy researching the history of Newport and, after working on Dock Street, formerly the commercial heart of the town west of the River Usk, we have now turned our attentions to Maindee, the former commercial heart of the east side of the river. Alongside this, group members are working on particular projects which feed into our overall aim of gathering as much information on the history of our city as we can. These include the compilation of an index of photographs and the collection of individual unpublished photographs. We hope to make the results of our researches available publicly in due course, both through our u3a and also by depositing research results with Newport Reference Library.
